Over the last seven years we’ve gathered a multitude of spectacular lanterns from Penguins and Dandelions to Kiwis and Jellyfish. Here you’ll find all our past lanterns that will be back to light up another fabulous year.
CHERRY BLOSSOM TREES
Take a spot under the Cherry Blossoms and try to uncover their secrets.
Feeling low on luck? Our Carp lantern is here to help! It is believed that Carp attract wealth and blessings while avoiding disasters. Make Wellington Lantern Festival your lucky day.
Make a wish with our dazzling dandelions as they twinkle in the dark.
THE JELLY WELLY
Get up close and personal to the spectacular Jellyfish that have made the Wellington Waterfront their home. Watch out for their tentacles as they light up the lagoon.
The penguins are back to make a splash! You’ll spot our penguins on top of Wellington’s
iconic diving platform, right by Te Papa. The penguins will be making their way up the steps to the diving board ready to take the plunge, in true Wellingtonian style.
Get ready for a cuteness overload and lots of bamboo with our Precious Panda.
KA PAI KIWI
Our favourite little Kiwi is back and getting ready to take a peek at the waterfront once the sun goes down.
Our resident giant yellow rubber duck will be lighting up Te Papa’s lagoon accompanied by a few hundred little yellow ducklings.
Money Mouse is as cute as they come and brings good fortune. A well known Taiwanese story describes how rats came into the house bringing money, good fortune and good health.
SPECTACULAR SEA HORSES
Be mesmerized by our Spectacular seahorses as they light up the ocean around them.
Take a walk through our fish forest and be transported to an underwater oasis .
ZOOMER THE MAGNIFICENT
Oink Oink! This handsome pig is back once again looking as dapper as ever with his top hat and cane.
LOVE TO THE MOON AND BACK
A play on the much loved book “Guess how much I love you” the giant Moon and Rabbit balloon lanterns are a spectacular sight to see and a great spot for a silhouette photo shoot
WELLINGTON NIGHT MARKET ARCH
Look above and see plenty of traditional lanterns swinging above you on the Wellington Night Market arch.
THE GREAT DRAGON
This 5m long Dragon is a legendary mythological creature and is believed to bring good fortune. Just watch out for its fire breath!
Our Pretty Peacock sits on its throne with gorgeous blues, greens and oranges making up its spectacular feathered structure.
